Birth Support Services
Childbirth Preparation

I am an advocate for compassion in birth- meeting my clients where they're at, believing what they tell me about their strengths and weaknesses, fears and hopes, and helping them to uncover the tools they already have to assist them in birth and parenting. I believe in trusting women to know what is right for their body, baby and family in any given moment.

I do not focus on specific outcomes.
Rather, I focus on the individual needs of each client/student in the moment.

I do not agree that fathers should train like Olympians to be encyclopedias of birth; rather, their rite of passage into fatherhood should be honored as well in addition to that of the mother.
Fathers are not sideline participants or cheerleaders, they are integral to the birth experience for the mother and baby and their role in the birthing should be recognized by all supporting participants. My goal is always to support the family as a whole by exploring the individual needs of each member and finding our way together through the labyrinth of birth.

I look forward to meeting with you and exploring how my services may be of use to you in your journey to parenthood!

My husband Randy and I have been married since 2000, and we have two amazing boys, Dryden & Niall. Both of our children were hospital born after Pitocin inductions, magnesium sulfate (for blood pressure issues), and epidurals. While they sound similar in writing, I had two very different births and both taught me a lot about birth, strength, perserverence and 'hanging on by your fingernails', as I often say.

I have been attending births since 2002, after a 32 hour DONA doula training in Kingston, Washington. I have attended homebirths, waterbirths, cesarean births, inductions, spontaneous labors and even had one client make the news! I typically attend births within Kitsap County, but have attended in many locations.

Volunteer Experience

From 1997 - 2000, I volunteered with ProMoM, including one year on their Board of Directors.
I volunteered as the Advertising Editor of Kangaroo Kids/Hand in Hand, a publication of Northwest Attachment Parenting (now defunct).
I was the Regional/Washington State Representative for CAPPA for almost a year (2004).
Together with Alisha Wilkes, we co-created Birth Connections, a publication for families and childbirth professionals.
I worked in partnership called Woman to Woman Cooperative Doula Care with Wendi Figueroa for seven months, a cooperative practice where clients had the option of inviting two doulas for the price of one to their births.
Most recently, I served for a short time on the REACHE board, and the ICAN of Tacoma board as their Publicity Coordinator. Currently I am contributing to Peninsula Birth Network, a local collective of birth professionals.

Certifications
I am certified in Infant and Child First Aid/CPR, and also in Neonatal Resuscitation.
I enjoy attending local seminars and workshops to strengthen my skills as a birth professional, and to remain current in new research and information. I am currently enrolled at Olympic College with aspirations to medical school.

My personal life is a huge reflection of my professional life; I am always seeking to choose compassionately, love
unconditionally and explore my boundaries. My intention is to always be an advocate for compassion in birth and power for women to choose, instead of being told what to do. This is the foundation of my practice.
